Storytelling (Photography)

Oil refineries along the port pollute the air.
A slightly destroyed flag flies in front of the oil refinery.

I chose to do the story of port pollution because it affects me a lot. My family lives close to the port and so we see a lot of what happens. My dad works at the port so he has to deal with the consequences of the pollution the port causes daily. Because of this I felt like it would be important to showcase how much of a substantial problem this is.

A view of the ocean and palm trees stands in front of multiple cranes.

I feel like my best photo is the last one of the rainbow atop the ocean with the cranes in the background. I feel like that photo shows a lot of what I wanted people to see especially with how dirty the water looks. I feel that the photo of the fishing nets is not the best photo in this set but it definitely goes with the theme of showing pollution in the port.

Fishing nets sit on the side of the road. A sign that reads no nets is beside the pile.

Next time I would try to get an earlier start because on the day that I ended up having time to go out and take these pictures it was raining. This made it a bit hard at some points during the day to take and get good pictures. However when it stopped it did make for having a rainbow in the background of some of my photos which I feel really added to them. While I did have some second thoughts about some of the photos I was taking at the time they were being shot looking back on them I fell that I did a pretty good job overall. I do think that photo stories are important and I would definitely consider doing another one I’m not entirely sure what I would want it to be focused.

Trash liters the floor, containers and cranes can be seen on either side of the street while a rainbow sits in the background.
A rainbow overlooks cranes and the ocean. Wood can be seen in the water. A layer of oil can be seen on top of the water.
